The Collectivité de Saint-Martin is installing two floating anti-sargassum barriers in the Baie de Cul de Sac to intercept seaweed rafts before they reach sensitive shoreline areas. Barrier C1 (180 m) sits at the north of the bay; barrier C2 (520 m) runs along the southwest shore, staggered with a marked passage in the deepest part kept open for sailboats and deep-draft vessels.
Boaters must move their vessels off the barrier route immediately to allow installation.
Under decree n° 2026DEB, anchoring, swimming, and all nautical, diving, and fishing activities are banned within the delimited zone. Access to the Cul de Sac jetty and the Pinel islet link remains open. From Monday, September 11, 2026, violations will be prosecuted.
